We are proud to announce that Stones2Milesontes has partnered with Alibaba Group, one of the world’s largest e-commerce company in their pan-India initiative called ‘Mission Million Books’.
Mission Million Books is aimed at providing the underserved with access to quality books for reading and learning. In India, the project was launched in August 2016 with an aim of donating 5000 books. It has since grown much bigger and now aims to donate over a million books. The initiative has so far donated 3,00,000 books across 2000 schools and colleges, benefitting 50,000 students so far. Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, which is in the domain of collecting and donating books, has partnered with Alibaba in this noble initiative.
Stones2Milestones as the Global Knowledge Partner is responsible for creating awareness about this incredible mission. “Alibaba wants to make the practice of giving a painless experience, without any cost, for everyone. All you need to do is call Alibaba and let them know you have a few books you would like to donate. The books will be collected free of cost and then further donated to the ones who need it,” says Kavish Gadia, Founding Partner at Stones2Milestones.
“Better quality education will enable citizens to become entrepreneurs or scientists or doctors or engineers. So we want to donate one million books for the benefit of the underprivileged. Access to quality study material will make a difference in their lives,” says Vinay Bhartia, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnership, Alibaba.com.
Although the government has initiated various campaigns to address these challenges, it is also important for private players to contribute to enhancing the quality of educational material for students. This campaign is committed to working with charitable trusts and other organisation to make this campaign a success. Partnering trusts collect books, sort them based on subjects, topics, grades, and languages, and also invite leading colleges and education institutes to donate books to the underserved. Publishers and distributors donate books as well.
The campaign partners include The World Bank Family Network Book Project, E-com Express, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Retailers Association of India, UC Web, Carnival Cinemas, Ticket New, Paytm Mall and Stones2Milestones.
Alibaba Group was founded by Jack Ma in 1999. It is known across the world for its businesses in B2B, B2C, digital wallet, logistics, and cloud software. Ma’s is a true rags-to-riches story. He grew up poor in communist China and worked as an English teacher. He is often heard saying, “Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow, there will be sunshine.”
Ali Baba and Stones2Milestones together aim to educate young India by cultivating reading habits among children and providing access to quality reading material. India’s education sector needs great attention, and Alibaba’s effort along with Stones2Milestones is a step in the right direction.
